2 of my cats had UK pet passports. And the first one I did myself...it was early days...I flew American, my cat flew Virgin. The Virgin pilot (since I couldn't get on their flight), sent me updates to the team all the way across. Now its become more cumbersome either way.... so the costs aren't surprising.
I was on the edge of my seat reading this. I’m stressing they disappear on the olive grove terraces week one. How I love the love you have for them. Rehoming was just not an option I can see.
Having always had a cat or four I reacted to your travelogue with a slight rise in my BP and just the briefest twinge of anxiety. As stated "never again".
We've flown domestically with our cats and that was stressful enough - the many paperwork hoops to jump through and the threat of quarantine definitely makes an international move feel more daunting. I'm sorry it was such a stressful process for you, but I'm relieved to hear they made it safely to Bramasole and are already loving their new home.
I’d have been having a nervous breakdown. I’m moving two cats to France in two years (my sister is moving potentially six), and that stresses me more than anything else. Glad they arrived safe and sound!
Whew!! 🙏💕 It is done, and now onto their particular new tastes in Italian cuisine and favorite places to prowl and nap. I wonder if they will notice any new notes in Tuscan birdsong??
This is fodder for a new book! Cats in paradise. I remember reading your first book as we traveled to Italy for the first time. Loved it then, love it still. And now, with cats! What could be better. Look forward to reading about their new adventures.
I am sure you have discovered that you have many cat lovers among your subscribers. I get it. I have loved cats all my life and I am going to be 89 [still feel young, though]. I [currently] only have one cat ,....have had as many as 3 over the years. She definitely rules the roost and doesn't like others to come into my house....didn't know she would not be social, but we're tight and so be it. Maybe she'll mellow as time goes by and in the meantime it's all OK. More comments, please, as time goes by as to their new home with you at your glorious abode.
I brought two cats home to Chapel Hill from Germany many years ago. The flight from Frankfurt was delayed six hours, and we had an overnight at JFK. One of my cats spent the whole time there behind the draperies. But, my home had a lovely small woodland, and we three spent many happy years there. The stressful memories will fade when you see them lying in the sun in your lovely garden. Welcome home.
Oh my gosh! I am so stressed out just reading this. Your poor babies and the worry about it all falling into place. Brava! Our sweet kitty Maya will not even get in a car so she has only home vet visits also. What an adjustment for you all! Love the arrival photo! They will adjust in paradise, and they clearly know how much you love them.
I've often wondered how our Miniature Dachshunds would react. This gives some insight. I fear Daisy would bark the entire flight across the Atlantic, and Ranger would simply be unhappy she was spoiling his chance for a peaceful, 12-hour nap. The money, the time, the stress will all be worth it once they've settled in properly!
I’ve been wondering how that worked. Thank you for sharing. And I hope we get updates on the fur babies as to how they’re adjusting to their new home!
Me too! Thanks for the update.

I wish i were one of your cats getting to live at Bramasole 🇮🇹

A truly amazing tail!

I always wondered what was involved in moving a pet to a foreign country, so thanks for this (anxiety inducing) post!
And my cat would definitely hold a grudge.

Wow—you really love your cats!! Soon this will all be a memory! Are you going to live here full time now?
All's up in the air. We're here for now....
